This support is provided only if the signed registration form bound in
the manual is filled out, signed, and sent to EZX Publishing.

Registration/support is not normally transferable as we can only "train"
one individual for each copy of the fully registered program purchased.

You must install the original EZ-FORMS EXECUTIVE (EZFX) distribution disks via
your floppy disk drive. Copies will not work. Also, do not install the non-
network version of EZFX to a network. This will result in erratic and
unpredictable operation. Contact EZX Publishing for details.

(You may use any other floppy drive of the right format. Substitute drive
 letter as necessary.)

At the DOS prompt, type:

  A:INSTALL <enter>

You will be prompted for various installation choices, and for when to put in
the appropriate distribution disks. Follow the instructions you will be shown,
as well as the information in your manual.

Once installation is complete, you may run EZFX by typing:

  EZFX <enter>

You must be in the EZFX working directory you chose during the installation
process.

Fill out, sign and return the registration card to qualify for support.
Floppy drive operation is not recommended. See the manual for details.

The files on the distribution disks are compressed and encoded. So make
sure you follow the installation instructions faithfully.
It also helps to read through the entire manual before attempting to install,
or operate the program. *** Much frustration can be saved by doing this! ***

UPGRADE NOTES (from previous versions of EZ-FORMS, EZ-FORMS LITE, EZ-FORMS GOLD,
               Perfect Forms, SuperForms, EZ-FORMS PLUS, or EZ-FORMS EXECUTIVE)

For pricing, run UPGRADES.EXE.

EZFX 4.01f can read all previous .FRM and most .FOF files of any EZ-FORMS
product. (Excludes encrypted files, must be decrypted first.)
Math from EZ-Forms Plus and EZFX 2.x and 1.x will have to be re-entered.

However, once the form is saved under the new EZFX 4.x format, it cannot be
read by previous versions. It can be read, however, by EZ-FORMS DataBase
Version 4.0 and greater.

If you are upgrading from EZFX 2.x, the old EZFX.CNF file will no longer be
valid. Therefore, you will have to re-install (or configure) for your printer
drivers, maximum form size, colors, FOO mode, etc.

"Regional License" refers to number of computers and/or workstations that have

∙ LAN server pricing is 10 times the single user price for the first 100

"LAN Server License" refers to users on a SINGLE server at a single location.
Additional licenses are required for additional servers.

∙ Unlimited single site (single company and contiguous site) license pricing
is 25 times the single user retail price.
"Site License" refers to all users at the *SMALLER* of *ONE* company or
building.  Includes all LAN nodes too.  Multi-site licenses are discounted
according to the "single" user quatity schedule above.

∙ Unlimited corporate licensing is 100 times the single user retail price.
"Unlimited" refers to all users in a single company (EXcluding subsidiaries),
worldwide.
Government agencies must be licensed on an individual basis.  (e.g.  Navy,
Army, IRS, National Park Service, etc.)

Multi-user license include:  Registered Software (one master copy); 1 copy
of the user's manual(s); 365days of voice support (excluding toll charges)

person; necessary "bug" updates, if any.  Additional support contracts are
available at $19 + 75% of the SRP per person per year, up to the license
maximum.

Additional manuals (up to the license maximum) may be purchased at $10 + 5%
of SRP each with original order; $15 + 5% SRP afterwards.  You may print,
for internal use only, your own manuals from EZX supplied master for a
prepaid royalty of 5% of the SRP each, up to the license maximum.

The following details installation for the TestDrive-Valueware(tm) DISK ONLY
                                           ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
EZ-FORMS EXECUTIVE is "LZH" compressed on the TestDrive distribution disk for
space considerations. This allows us to give you the full on-line manual and
help. Previous versions were not distributed in this way and as a result, all
of the above mentioned information was not there.

If you received this file as an archive, unarchive its contents into a
directory called \EZFX-TD and simply run EZFX.EXE.

EZ-FORMS EXECUTIVE Ver. 4.0 and greater is designed to run on a hard drive
ONLY. If you do not have a hard drive, consider EZ-FORMS PLUS (see EZXINFO).

First, make the directory EZFX-TD on your hard drive. At the C:\prompt, type:
  MD C:\EZFX-TD <cr>

Then put this disk in your A drive and type:
  CD C:\EZFX-TD <cr>

Then type:
  COPY A:*.* <cr>     Substitute other drive letters, as necessary.

Then type:
  EZFX40TD <cr>

This will uncompress the EZFX distribution files. When it finishes, type:
  DEL EZFX40TD.EXE to remove the source file from your hard drive.

To run EZ-FORMS EXECUTIVE, type:
  EZFX <cr>

There is no separate "DOC" file as such for EZFX.
The on-line help (F1) and on-line manual (F10) will get you going quickly.

limited slightly. If you are running from a floppy based system, please do not
try to run EZFX, consider EZ-FORMS PLUS instead.

~70 Features recently added to EZ-Forms Executive ~07


New features for EZ-Forms Executive v4.01f over v3.x:       May 1996

- Added tab scheduling.  Maximum number of tab schedules is 65,536!  You can
  now define exactly how tab and shift tab will work in completed forms.
- Added user configurable "pick list" (a.k.a. multiple choice lookup).
  Each form can now have up to 65,536 multiple choice items.
  You can specify as many as you want for each area or field.
- Added user configurable field help.
  Each form can have up to 65,536 help fields each help with up to 10 lines.
  Like tab scheduling and multiple choice, field help is stored in the form
  so you never have to worry about keeping all the files together for forms.
  Everything is saved with the form itself!
- Added configuration options for the built-in screen blanker.
  You can now adjust the time from 1-99 minutes.
  You can even disable it by setting the time to 0.
- Expanded support for laser printers using the PC-8 character set.
- We now use a high speed caching overlay linker.  This has cut the size of
  the main EZ-Forms Executive file and speeded up its operation by caching
  its overlays in EMS or XMS memory.
- Added DES encryption for USA/Canada editions. Substitution encryption
  is used on export editions.
- Expanded and improved many areas of the context sensitive help.
- Enhanced and speeded up many other areas of the program.
- The single machine version of EZFX will NOT run from a network drive,
  or allow access to a network drive. You must copy files from network
  drives to a local drive before running EZFX.
- Improved TRUE NETWORK versions of EZFX are available.
- Numerous minor touch-ups.

***Notes concerning operational change in EZ-Forms Executive v4.xx

- When adding the adjustable screen blanker, it forced a change to the
  EZFX.CNF file size for the extra option.  This means a user will have
  to re-install their printer type and other info with v4.0.  Any previous
  version EZFX.CNF file will be ignored.  The user will not get a warning.

  ON DES ENCRYPTION: (data encryption standard)
- DES encryption for forms is limited to USA and Canada.
  This is a requirement of the USA National Security Agency
- DES encryption is disabled in the Testdrive/shareware version.
- The minimum key length is 5 characters.
- The maximum key length is 40 characters.
- A slightly different file format is used for forms which have been
  encrypted.  EZFX will NOT read a previous version form with encryption.
- Implemented DES in such a fashion that you will only know it is there
  if it is actually part of the program.  If you encrypt a form with DES
  and then try to decrypt it with the shareware version or non US/Canada
  version, you will be given a message saying the form is encrypted using
  DES but can't be decrypted.
- WARNING:   ONLY the body (entered data) of the form is encrypted.  Any
  character attributes, tab schedules, field help, multi-choice lookup,
  math formulas, etc. are NOT ENCRYPTED!
- Added directory navigation - change to any drive or directory easily
  from the file directory screen.
- Added a Fill-Out-Only (FOO) mode where you can limit use of the program
  so users can't alter pre-designed master forms.
- Greatly expanded the maximum form size!!!  Forms can now be up to 999 lines
  long or 254 columns wide.  Choose whatever size best fits your needs.  You
  can later resize the form either larger or smaller.  Please note that the
  longest form (999 lines or 15+ pages at 80 columns) requires about 600K of
  free RAM and an unfragmented memory space.  You can normally create a form
  600-700 lines long and 80 columns wide in a 386 machine running DOS 5.0 with
  NO memory resident software.
- Added a simple menu pick for installing printer types.  Over 500 common
  printer types are listed.  Use a color bar to highlight your specific printer
  type, then press Enter.
- Added printer port information to many of the print related screens
  and to the Alt+I editor information screen.
- Additional laser printer support:  Smart font loading (tries to guess font
  if the specified one doesn't exist), allows form to be from 1-255 lines
  per page with each page on a different piece of paper, plus much more!
- Improved grid generator.  Extended limits to better work with larger form
  sizes and added additional editing capability.  Enhanced user interaction.
- Added ability to print a form to a file.  You can then copy the file to
  your printer at any time to duplicate the form.  Use: COPY /B FILENAME PRN
  to print the file.
- Simplified file export to make it easier to use.  Now supports 6 common
  file export formats.
- Expanded and arranged editor menu pulldowns to more logically group common
  items together.

Version 2.5 new features: (originally released 8/90)
- Command to convert completed forms (FOF) back into master forms (FRM).
- Added printer type H to provide direct support for our free HP LaserJet
  Font support pack.  The default font is saved as part of the form.
  However, the form's font information is NOT compatible with EZ-Forms
  Lite's use of the saved font within the form.  EZ-Forms Lite will NOT
  be able to use the default font information from a EZ-Forms Executive form.
- Database/Wordprocessing mode for Enter key in FOFs.
- Now provide our product and support literature as .EXE files which are
  run from the main program.  This decreases the size of the help/manual
  file by almost 20K!
- Faster (about 10-15%) and smaller.
- Added an additional printer support for Epson 24 pin compatible printers.
- Expanded the number of copies for printing, allowing up to 255 copies.
- Improved layout of installation menus.
- Fixed bugs affecting wordwrap (ALL were rare boundary conditions)
  -- The auto block marking stopped one line short of top and bottom of form
     when the block was an entire blank completed form.
  -- Fixed a bug that caused the cursor to hang at the right edge of a marked
     block ONLY when you used auto block marking AND the block went all the
     way to the extreme right edge of the form (no border on the form).
  -- Corrected a problem where if you were using insert AND had solid text
     across the block AND you tried to insert a character in the solid text
     AND the last line in the block was blank, the routine would enter an
     endless loop.  Now it will just beep to let you know the line is full.
- Other minor bug fixes.
- Enhanced the screen blanker so it now uses your computer's clock to
  determine how long to wait before blanking the screen when you aren't
  typing.  It now uses 5 minutes regardless of computer speed.
- Greatly expanded the pulldown menu for the Editor.  Almost twice the number
  of commands are now available thru a pulldown in addition to direct access.
- Removed slowed down printing in TestDrive.  Our new TestDrive version
  prints at full speed.  Additional promotional screens replace the slowed
  down printing.
- Mouse driver is now integral in the program.

Other recent and major improvements.
- Math auto recalc
- Directory sorting, any field, any direction with ability to install and
  save preferences in configuration file
- Macro autostart using the S+F10 macro
- Enhanced color scheme for the windows
- Notepad to allow copying portions of forms (with attributes) to a buffer
  and allowing it to be pasted into other forms
- Use of assembly language to cut space requirements and speed up operation
- Feedthru of all characters >= 32, show ASCII# in editor

~70 Using EZ-Forms Executive with Windows or DESQview ~07

NOTE: Before attempting to use EZ-Forms Executive under any other program, first
run it stand-alone.  Once you are confident that EZFX is functioning properly,
then perform the same confidence tests in your normal environment.

Windows and DESQview are multi-tasking environment programs. They allow many
programs to be active at one time, and they even allow multiple instances of
the same program. You could load EZFX several times, each with a different
form. If you have more than one instance of EZFX using the same form,
be very careful, since neither Windows or DESQview will manage any file
contention that may result. The DOS Share command may help in this regard -
refer to your DOS manual. You may also need the multi-user version of EZFX.

The following text is not meant to teach you anything about Windows or
DESQview. It is only to help you get the most from EZ-Forms Executive.


Windows
^^^^^^^
Under Microsoft Windows, EZ-Forms Executive will run as a DOS application.
EZFX has been extensively tested under Windows versions 2.11 and 3.0, in real,
standard and protected modes.  An icon file (EZFX.ICO) and a Program
Information File (EZFX.PIF) have been included with EZFX for your
convenience. To install EZFX into a Windows Program Manager Program
Group, follow these steps:

1) Start Windows as you normally do, then activate the Program Manager.

2) Activate the Program Group you want to contain EZFX, or create a new one.

3) Select the File pulldown menu, then select the New command, then select a
New Program Item.

4) Enter "EZ-Forms Executive" as the Description.

5) Enter the full pathname of EZFX.PIF for the Command Line.  For example,
if you have installed EZFX to c:\EZFORMSX, enter "c:\EZFORMSX\EZFX.PIF".

6) Select the Change Icon button, then enter the full pathname of the
EZFX.ICO file. eg. "C:\EZFORMSX\EZFX.ICO"

7) Select the OK buttons until done.

8) Select the EZ-Forms Executive icon.

9) EZFX should show up on the screen. Select a database and test a few of
the functions.


DESQview
^^^^^^^^
Under Quarterdeck's DESQview, EZ-Forms Executive will run like most other DOS
applications. EZFX has been extensively tested under DESQview version 2.4,
but other versions should work as well. A DESQview Program Information File (EX-
PIF.DVP) has been included with EZFX for your convenience.  To install
EZFX into the DESQview Open Window menu, follow these steps:

1) Start DESQview (if not already running), press the DESQview key, then
select Open Window, then Add a Program.

2) In the Add a Program menu, type O to select the OTHER option.

3) For the Add OTHER Program path, specify your EZ-Forms Executive directory.
For example, if you have installed EZFX to c:\EZFORMSX, enter "c:\EZFORMSX".

4) Move the cursor to the EZ-Forms Executive item on the left, select it by
pressing the space bar key, then press Enter.

5) Press Enter again to select Done.  The keys "EX" have been selected as the
Open Window menu keys for EZFX.  If there is a conflict with an existing
application, you can change this.

6) In DESQview, select Open Window, then select Change a Program, giving it
the EZFX menu keys.

7) Use the Tab key to move to the Directory line, and enter your EZ-Forms
DataBase directory name, as in step 3.  Also, note the Memory Size parameter.
This has been set to 512K, but a larger amount may be usable, or a smaller
amount may be needed.  Finally, press Enter to save.

8) Run EZ-Forms Executive from within DESQview and test until satisfied.
